THE PROJECT
The 4Sir2 project aims to develop a novel functional beverage specifically designed for obese children, using grape or apple juice enriched with bioactive compounds (resveratrol and polyphenols) derived from grape pomace, a by-product of wine production.
These natural compounds have shown the potential to activate anti-obesity genes (especially sirtuins) to help prevent and mitigate childhood obesity. The project’s ambition is twofold:
Support the development of healthier dietary habits in children through a nutritious, tasty, and affordable smoothie.
Promote family-wide lifestyle changes by targeting children as a key entry point.
The 4Sir2 Smoothy represents a sustainable and innovative solution that leverages waste valorization, green food technology, and gene-nutrient interactions, contributing to the EU’s Farm2Fork strategy by promoting both health and sustainability.
